A USB 2.0 interface Portable storage device box and a 20GB notebook hard disk (IC25N020ATDA04) are used to form a Portable storage device. Insert the Portable storage device into the USB front port of the author's computer, and the system prompts "There are new devices inserted, but they cannot be installed normally, and may not be used normally". No trace of Portable storage device can be found in the "Device Manager" and "Resource Manager". Observing the Portable storage device, it was found that the "click" sound kept appearing, and the indicator light changed periodically with the sound. It was suspected that the power supply of the front USB interface was insufficient, so the Portable storage device was transferred to the motherboard USB interface, which caused the phenomenon that PS/2 could not be used for auxiliary power supply. After several tests, the Portable storage device can occasionally be found in the Device Manager, but it cannot be used normally.
The hard drive and hard drive case have been tested at the merchant's premises and there are no issues. Why is it impossible to use them when combined? I have to use the substitution method first. Take the Portable storage device to the office and insert it into a computer that also uses the i845G chipset (the accessories are basically similar, but the brand is different) for test. The use is very normal, which eliminates the possibility of Portable storage device breaking the enemy barrier.
It seems that the problem is still related to the author's computer. Carefully compare the configurations of the two computers. The motherboard and power supply are related to the use of the Portable storage device. Continue to use the replacement method. First, replace the power supply on the author's computer with the power supply on the office computer. The failure is still unsolved. Later, the power supply on the author's computer was used to replace the power supply on the office computer. It was found that the Portable storage device still works normally on the office computer. Only the motherboard design was suspected to be defective. The integrated power module on the motherboard does not support Portable storage device that requires high current. So far, the solution has stalled.
However, another failure led the author to find the reason why the Portable storage device could not be used. Not long ago, the power supply on the computer of the author was burned out due to the failure of the voltage regulator (a voltage regulator was added before the power supply came in). After pressing the switch key, the host did not respond. The host returned to normal after temporarily replacing a brand new Jinheda Powerba ATX-S300 power supply. Not reconciled to the fact that the Portable storage device could not be used, the host was connected to the machine again for testing, and it was completely used normally. After the old power supply is repaired and replaced, the Portable storage device cannot be used again.
A careful comparison was made between the new and old power supplies. The new power supply outperformed the old power supply in terms of rated power, mainly due to an increase in+5V and+5VSB output. However, the+5VSB output of the old power supply on the author's computer is the same as that of the office computer power supply, and the+5V output is also greater than that of the office computer power supply. Therefore, it can only be related to the motherboard. After carefully reviewing the motherboard manual, it was found that the motherboard supports keyboard startup and other functions. The keyboard, mouse, USB interface, etc. all use+5VSB output power supply, but the office machines do not support these functions. At this point, the author suddenly realized that there are too many devices that need+5VSB output power supply, which leads to insufficient+5VSB output. The power supply of the Portable storage device that requires a large current is insufficient, resulting in the failure of normal use.
The power demand of the Portable storage device is 5V, and the+5VSB output of the power supply can not meet the demand, so we have to find a way on the+5V output of the power supply. Providing it directly to the USB interface for use, the integrated USB 2.0 interface circuit on the motherboard is complex and difficult to modify. The front USB socket interface on the chassis provides the possibility for modification due to its connection with the motherboard through a row plug. Just unplug the VCC and ground wire in the USB connector of the chassis from the motherboard pin and connect them to the red wire (+5V) and black wire (ground wire) in the spare power output 4PIN plug.
The steps are as follows:
1. Prepare materials and tools first: one in two power adapter, (two pin) socket, insulation protection sleeve, electric soldering iron, soldering wire, etc.
2. Choose any male plug from the one to two power adapter, and then remove the red and black wires from the connector and cut them off.
3. Cover the red and black wires with insulation protective sleeves and weld them onto the (two pin) socket.
4. Insert the ground wire and Vcc of the USB connector into the (two pin) socket.
5. Insert the female plug in the 1/2 power adapter into the idle plug of the power supply.
After the interface is modified and installed, start the machine, connect the Portable storage device to the modified front USB interface, and the system immediately recognizes it. File copying, deletion, moving and hot plugging of the hard disk are all normal. At this point, the renovation was successful.
