Talking about the importance of USB Type C connectors

For consumers, that small USB connector looks fragile and needs to be taken good care of, especially the USB connector on smartphones. If it breaks down, it cannot be charged. Therefore, the design of USB Type C is particularly focused on being strong and durable, able to withstand at least 10000 plugs and unplugs, which is equivalent to an average of 5 plugs and unplugs per day, and can still be used for about five and a half years. This has exceeded the cycle of smartphone upgrades!

Picking up my newly purchased smartphone and knowing that one charger can be used interchangeably without having to prepare multiple chargers, I couldn't help but thank God. For users, using mobile devices is not as important as using simple apps that are novel. For many years, various strange and unusable charging connectors have been annoying, uneconomical, and environmentally friendly.

Most users are not familiar with the principles of the product, but they are experts in terms of whether the product looks good, is durable, inconvenient to use, and is not cheap. They have many requirements.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a serial port bus standard that connects computer systems to external devices. It is an input-output interface technology specification that is widely used in communication products such as personal computers and mobile devices, and expands its functions to other related fields such as photography equipment, digital televisions (on board boxes), game consoles, and of course, also enters the field of smartphones. When I first asked about the market, it really brought great convenience to unify the connectors of various devices and support the Plug and play feature of hot plug. USB is designed specifically for external devices, with diverse and widespread applications. In terms of external interfaces, they have now defeated IEEE. External interfaces directly face users, who are a group of people who don't know much but have many requirements. They are more concerned about whether they are good looking, durable, inconvenient, and not cheap. As for how the machine operates, most people, like the author, have no interest in it. As long as they can "adapt to constant changes" and connect old equipment with new products, it would be great. The interface (connector) of USB Type A and B does indeed achieve this, no matter how the generations of USB alternate (USB 1.0, USB 2.0, USB 3.0), users seem to not increase the trouble of using it.

USB Type C接头

For consumers, ease of use is one of the selling points of USB type-c connectors, as its plug can be used as long as it is aligned with the socket, regardless of the front or back, without fear of making mistakes in direction, which was not possible with previous USB connectors. The method used is not uncommon. USB Type C adopts a more than less approach by adding an additional set of contacts inside the connector, with corresponding contacts on both the front and back sides, thus achieving this goal.

Improved transmission speed. After the release of USB 3.0 on November 12, 2008, it brought 5Gbps high-speed transmission efficiency, while the USB 3.1 bandwidth specification was even larger at 10Gbps. The high transmission speed specification is not just written in the specification book, but also requires corresponding supporting measures. For example, the encoding rate also needs to increase. USB 3.0 uses 8b10b encoding, which means that for every 10bit of data transmitted, only 8bit is the real data, and the remaining 2bit is used as the check code. Therefore, the entire bandwidth will have a loss of up to 20% (2/10), while the new USB 3.1 uses 128b130b encoding. In 130bit data, only 4bit is needed as the check code, and the transmission loss rate will significantly decrease to 3% (4/132).

USB 3.1 is a common interface for the new generation of mobile phones and tablets. In addition to its fast speed and ideal transfer rate of up to 10Gbps, it is paired with a USB 3.1 Type C connector, making USB 3.1 a powerful external interface. It has the opportunity to unify future mobile phone, tablet, and computer transmission interfaces, making it more convenient to transfer digital data and enjoy various audio and video applications.
