As a country with a large population and strong consumer power, every foreign brand in China hopes to take another share. As the world's largest technology giant by market value, Apple is no exception. In recent years, Apple has increasingly attached importance to the Chinese market.
The reason why Apple values the Chinese market is largely due to the efforts of its current CEO, Cook. In fact, during the Steve Jobs era, their attitude towards the Chinese market was "disdainful".
Therefore, Chinese Mainland is not the first market to sell such popular products as iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Apple usually first meets consumers in developed regions such as Europe and the United States before considering selling them in China.
However, after Cook took the helm, the position of the Chinese market began to improve, and since the iPhone 6s, the Chinese market has taken over the first release rights for each generation of iPhone. From then on, we can be the first to receive new products, just like European and American countries.
And Cook's efforts have clearly received the expected rewards, and the Chinese market has indeed not disappointed Apple. Recently, Apple released its financial report for the second quarter of 2021, which showed a total revenue of $81.434 billion for that quarter and $14.762 billion for the Greater China region.
That is to say, in the second quarter of this year, the Greater China region contributed nearly 100 billion yuan in revenue to Apple, a year-on-year increase of 58%. Among them, the iPhone 12 made a huge contribution and became a product that is highly loved by domestic consumers.
After achieving such outstanding results, Apple CEO Cook expressed joy, stating that the Chinese market is Apple's strongest market and he is proud of this achievement, believing that Apple will further enhance its position in the Chinese market.
However, on the one hand, it contributes hundreds of billions of yuan in revenue in a single quarter, and on the other hand, we are being treated differently by Apple.
In a notice released on July 30, 2020, Apple notified authorized domestic service providers that they could no longer directly replace damaged AirPods headphones for customers.
Previously, when the AirPods purchased by users were damaged during the warranty period, Apple authorized service providers would directly replace the damaged products for users. However, now it is necessary to return the AirPods headphones to the repair center for further screening.
After purchasing the AppleCare+service, users can receive an additional two-year hardware warranty and software support service, and can also receive two accidental damage warranty services at a low price every 12 months.
Generally speaking, users can purchase this service together with their Apple device purchase, or they can choose to purchase a replacement within 60 days after purchasing the product. However, this policy has also changed, and the online replacement time has changed from 60 days to 7 days, and after the expiration, they cannot purchase again.
More importantly, whether replacing AirPods headphones or purchasing AppleCare+services, this adjustment is only targeted at the Chinese market. The vast majority of other overseas markets still support a 60 day online purchase policy, and AirPods within the warranty period can also be directly replaced.
From the perspective of Apple's adjusted service policy, the newly revised terms have undoubtedly shrunk, and only the Chinese market has adjusted its strategy. It must be said that Apple's corporate leaders are indeed "treating" the Chinese market differently.
Of course, the reason why Apple has adjusted its service policy is largely because many Chinese people are exploiting Apple's policy loopholes. For example, if the phone is accidentally damaged within 60 days after purchasing, they can purchase an AppleCare+service and enjoy a low warranty.
For Apple, taking advantage of such loopholes will undoubtedly increase the company's after-sales costs, so it is understandable to adjust to online replenishment within 7 days, as the services provided by offline authorized service providers are unrestricted.
But the most puzzling thing for the author is why only China's service policies have been adjusted. This indeed reminds people of Apple treating them differently. I hope they can still treat them equally! Do you think apples are so good? Welcome to leave a comment in the comments section to share your thoughts.
