The EU proposal requires phones to use USB type-c fast charging parameters uniformly, and no longer come with a charger included in the box. Although only Apple and a few Android flagship phones do not come with a charger in the box now, and some brands simply follow the trend because Apple does not include a charger for a short time. However, the EU's new proposal intends to force phones to fully use USB type-c and meet the standard fast charging parameters, and the charger needs to be sold separately from the device, This means that once the bill is passed, phones sold in Europe in the future will no longer be equipped with chargers, and the phone end will also need to use a USB type-C interface.
The purpose of this bill is to unify charging standards and charging interfaces, so that consumers do not necessarily need to purchase a new charger for their new phones, but can charge using a USB type-C interface
The European Union claims that once the box charger is abolished, it will help reduce the production of chargers and dispose of waste chargers, and at least 1000 tons of Electronic waste will be saved every year. If the interface is unified, it means that unless the highest charging speed is pursued, a charger that meets PD specifications can be used for many years.
Most Android phones have already imported USB type-c, but chargers are still available in boxes. The European Union has been promoting the standardization of charging parameters for consumer electronics products with USB series interfaces for many years, prompting mobile phone brands to use USB type-a or USB type-c interfaces for wiring on the charger side. On the mobile device side, except for Apple, USB type-c is basically used, But Apple is gradually replacing the long-standing USB type-a with USB type-c on the side of the original charger.
As a result, Apple and Samsung's flagship phones no longer provide chargers, and according to rumors, Google's upcoming Pixel 6 series has also been revealed not to provide a built-in charger; But there is another noteworthy aspect of this bill, which is that the European Union requires the use of USB type-c on devices, meaning that once the bill is passed, future iPhones will no longer use Lightning.
However, Apple seems to be gradually paving the way for the USB type-c interface. Since the beginning of laptops, including iPad Pro, iPad Air, and the new generation iPad mini, USB type-c has been used. Only the standard iPad and iPhone series still use Lightning. From a general perspective, importing USB type-c into iPhone is also a matter of time, but it is likely to repeat the MFI ecosystem lamentation when 30 Pin was changed to Lightning at that time.
