With the development of technology in recent times, something has gradually entered thousands of households through generational upgrades as technology evolves. This technology can exist on your phone, on your computer, and even on your smart toothbrush and headphones. This ubiquitous technology also has a familiar name, which is the type-c interface. Today, I would like to give you a brief introduction to the type-C interface and its derivative technologies, as well as their impact on the digital industry in the future.
The type-c interface, also known as the USB C interface, is a product of the USB interface being updated to the third generation. As early as January 2013 at the Consumer Electronics Show in the United States, the new generation protocol of USB 3.1 and the new hardware interface type-c that supports this protocol were officially introduced. At the meeting, this new form of interface attracted the majority of people's attention.
In 2013, compared to the popular interfaces at that time, the type-c interface had incomparable advantages, whether it was the USB A interface of the USB 2.0 protocol on the computer side, the Lightning interface on the phone side (used on iPhones and iPads), and the micro USB interface (now used on some Android low-end phones). The type-c interface has up to 32 touchpoints, which is more than the 16 lightning interfaces; Supports both positive and negative bidirectional plugging; Lighter, thinner, and more durable than the USB A interface. It can be said that the hardware advantages of the type-c interface have surpassed most commonly used mobile interfaces.
Forging iron requires its own hardware, and the excellence in hardware is enough for major manufacturers to compete and adopt the advanced interface of type-c. On mobile phones, as early as the first half of 2015, LeTV Mobile 1 was the first in the domestic market to use the type-c interface as the phone interface. Subsequently, Xiaomi and Huawei also launched models such as Xiaomi 4c and Huawei Mate 8 that use the type-c interface. As a result, the flagship models of domestic mobile phones have chosen to abandon the micro USB interface with few features and short lifespan and instead embrace the type-c interface. In terms of computers, both Nokia and Google tablets used the type-c interface in 2014, and in 2015, Apple's MacBook Pro also officially used the type-c interface, becoming the earliest Apple device to use it. It can be said that the entire digital industry has seen the hardware advantages of the type-C interface. Type-C is not only an interface, but also a platform for major manufacturers to showcase their skills.
As a more excellent hardware, type-c is undoubtedly chosen by various manufacturers. As a sufficiently open USB interface hardware, Type-C, which has sufficient adaptability for various mobile products, has found its own hardware soil. At the same time, in order to develop the strength of this hardware, major manufacturers are constantly introducing various software technologies on the Type-C interface platform, upgrading devices, and improving user experience.
On a mobile device, it can be said that it is the most important feature, which is charging. Major manufacturers have continuously made efforts and launched their own technology on the type-c platform. Firstly, the PD charging technology natively supported on type-c is suitable for mobile phones and laptops. Currently, the latest USB type-c 2.1 interface can support a charging speed of 240W in hardware. Although mobile platforms may not be able to use this speed, for some laptops or performance focused workstations, the practical significance and emergency level of this charging speed are still helpful. Although PD charging technology is tacitly used on the computer end, in the mobile phone market, especially in the domestic mobile phone market, everyone has developed their own charging technology on the type-c platform, which is like the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, each showing their own abilities. Some domestic manufacturers have also pushed their charging power to speeds of 120W or above, which is surprising. At the same time, devices that currently use the type-c interface on the market are also compatible with lower charging power PD 20/30W or Qualcomm's QC charging by default, which plays an indispensable role in improving the overall battery life of mobile phones and unifying the charging interface and charging method.
On the other hand, in terms of data transmission, manufacturers have also played their own tricks. Firstly, as a type of USB interface, type-C is naturally compatible with USB's own data transmission technology. Therefore, the USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 currently used on most mobile phones can also meet the interconnection requirements between mobile devices to a certain extent. Of course, not only that, but also hardware giant Intel has proposed its own lightning technology on the type-c platform, which is the first to support the simultaneous transmission of video data and other data, and the transmission speed has reached an astonishing 10GB/s. While the current Thunderbolt 4 and the upcoming Thunderbolt 5 technologies have improved the use experience, they have increased the data transmission speed to 40GB/s, and support the simultaneous output of two 4K devices. It can be said that the Thunderbolt interface provides a more easy way to solve the problem of providing high-quality data transmission. Nowadays, major computer manufacturers have also chosen to use lightning interfaces, allowing users to receive more professional data quality and speed improvements.
With the follow-up and use of various manufacturers, the number of users who gradually come into contact with the type-c interface has also grown. And the user's foot voting also determines the practicality and wide compatibility of the type-c interface, which is worthy of recognition. More and more users choose to use them, and manufacturers will prioritize making more type-c devices based on their needs. With the increasing number of type-C devices on the market, some commercial departments have also chosen to promote the unification of this interface and achieve convenience for more users. Recently, the European Union has issued regulations requiring all mobile phones to use the type-c interface. On the other hand, Apple has some objections to this request, citing the need for users to discard the charging cable of the lighting interface in their hands, which would be environmentally friendly. In fact, what Apple wants is just the profit from the expensive hardware lighting licensing fees for its own charging lines. I hope that all manufacturers can give priority to using the type-c interface now, making more contributions to hardware interconnection and convenient charging.
